Privacy Policy
This policy explains what SparkMentor collects, why, who helps us process it, how long we keep it and the choices you have. It covers our website and our Android app.
The short version
- We collect what SparkMentor needs to tutor you: your account, your study profile and what you create.
- AI providers, mainly Google and OpenAI, process your questions to answer them. We never sell your data, show ads or train AI models on your content.
- Usage analytics are anonymous, kept in our own database, and you can turn them off.
- “Offers & news” is on when you sign up. Turn it off any time, in one tap.
- Download your data or delete your account in Settings. Deletion becomes final after 14 days.
- SparkMentor is for students aged 13 and over.

Who we are
SparkMentor is an AI study tutor operated by Sparkmentis (“we”, “us”, “our”). We decide how your personal data is used for SparkMentor and are responsible for it under this policy.
Questions or requests about your data? Email sparkmentis@gmail.com.
What we collect
What you give us
- Your account: your name, email address and password (stored only as a secure hash). If you sign in with Google, we receive your Google name, email address and profile photo. If you add them, we also store your passkeys and two-step verification settings.
- Your study profile: what you’re studying for, your grade or year, your exams and exam dates, your subjects and level, your language and time zone, and your country, which is worked out on your device from its time zone or language, never from your IP address.
- What you create: chat messages and attachments, photos of problems, files you upload, notes (including handwriting and pictures), knowledge trees, review cards, quizzes and your answers, mistakes, study plans, saved items and syllabi.
- Voice: when you talk to the voice tutor, your microphone audio is streamed to our voice providers so they can understand and answer you. We don’t keep recordings, only the written transcript, which is saved in that chat.
- Support and reports: messages you send us, an optional screenshot, basic device details added automatically (app version, platform, browser, operating system, time zone and language), and any tutor answer you report.
- Payments: your plan, credit balance and credit history. Card payments are handled by Stripe, and your card number never reaches our servers. If you turn on auto top-up, we keep a reference to the saved card and the country that issued it.
What we collect automatically
- Learning activity: what you study and when, such as study days and streaks, reviews, quiz results, topic mastery and progress, so SparkMentor can track your learning and suggest what’s next.
- Your devices: the device type and browser of each device you’re signed in on (for example “Chrome on Android”), so you can see and sign out your devices. For push notifications we store your browser’s push address and its browser details.
- Anonymous usage data: which features are used, which screen you were on, whether you use the website, the installed app or the Android app, and your theme and text size. It’s tied to a random ID that changes every day, never to your account, name, email, IP address or anything you write. You can turn it off in Settings → Privacy.
- Error reports: when something breaks, a technical report of what failed goes to our error-monitoring provider. Your account details, IP address, cookies and anything you typed are removed first.
- Server logs: to keep SparkMentor secure and working, our servers keep short-lived logs that can include your IP address, browser, the pages requested and, for emails we send, your email address.
From services you connect
- Google Classroom (if you connect it): read-only access to your classes, your own coursework and returned grades, class materials, announcements and topics, and your Google email address. Drive files are read only when you choose them with the Google file picker; those files are copied to our storage so the tutor can use them.
- SparkMentis (if you connect your school’s SparkMentis): your classes, homework, assignments, unit plans, tests (their questions only after the test has closed), results, timetable and attendance.
We don’t collect your precise location, contacts or phone number, and we don’t use advertising IDs, ad trackers or third-party analytics.
How we use it
- To run SparkMentor: your account, the tutor’s answers and every feature you use.
- To personalize your learning: your level, subjects, exams and past mistakes shape the tutor’s answers, quizzes, reviews and study plans.
- To handle plans and credits: charging for paid features, keeping your balance and history, and preventing abuse. For example, welcome credits are given once per email address.
- To contact you: verification and sign-in emails, billing notices, data-export and account-deletion emails, replies to support requests, reminders you turn on, and Offers & news while it’s on.
- To improve SparkMentor: using anonymous usage data, error reports and the answers you report.
- To keep SparkMentor safe: sign-in protection, rate limits, fraud prevention and enforcing our Terms of Service.
We use your data because it’s needed to provide the service you signed up for, because you agreed (for example to Offers & news), for our legitimate interest in keeping SparkMentor safe and making it better, or because the law requires it.
We don’t sell your personal data, we don’t show ads, and we don’t train AI models on your content.
AI and your content
SparkMentor’s tutor runs on AI models from Google (Gemini) and OpenAI. To answer you, we send them what that answer needs: your message and the recent conversation, attachments, your subject and level, and related notes or past mistakes. Some answers use Google Search through Gemini to find sources.
Voice uses Google’s live audio models and, for some tutors, ElevenLabs (speech) and Anam (the video tutor).
AI can be wrong. Check important answers, and use “Report this answer” when something looks off. Our team reviews every report, together with the conversation it came from.
Google user data
If you connect Google Classroom, SparkMentor reads your classes, your own coursework, grades, class materials, announcements and topics, and only the Drive files you choose with the Google file picker, to show them in your School hub, plan your study and let the tutor help with your work. SparkMentor’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not use Google user data for advertising, we do not sell it, we do not use it to train general AI models, and people at SparkMentor do not read it except with your permission, for security, or to comply with the law. To answer your questions, the relevant content is sent to Google Gemini, our AI model provider, only to generate your answer. If you talk to a voice tutor, the spoken answer is also processed by our voice providers (ElevenLabs and Anam) only to speak it to you. You can disconnect at any time from Integrations; choosing “Remove school data” deletes it from SparkMentor.
Public profiles and shared notes
Your profile is private unless you turn on a public profile. It shows your first name and last initial, never your email, plan, credits, country, exam or mistakes, and only the parts you choose: your photo (off unless you switch it on), streak, study calendar, topics, achievements, quizzes and subjects.
It opens from a private link you can replace at any time, or from a handle you choose. Public profiles are hidden from search engines, and we count views without recording who viewed. Turning your profile off closes both links at once.
A note you share by link can be opened by anyone who has the link, until you stop sharing it.
Emails, notifications and Offers & news
Service messages, such as sign-in and security emails, billing notices, data-export and deletion emails and replies to your support requests, are part of using SparkMentor.
Offers & news (occasional news and offers by email, push notification and in the app) is on when you create an account. Turn it off any time in Settings → Notifications, from the inbox, or with the one-tap unsubscribe link in every such email. We record when and where you changed it. We send at most one such notification a day and three a week, and never between 9 pm and 8 am your time.
Study reminders are optional. Push reminders are set in Settings → Notifications, and email reminders stay off unless you turn them on. To see whether our messages are useful, we count when emails, notifications, banners and inbox items are opened or tapped.
How long we keep it
- Your account and content: for as long as you have an account. You can delete single items in the app at any time.
- When you delete your account: everything is erased 14 days after you ask. The grace period lets you change your mind. See Delete your account.
- Backups and server logs: they roll off within 30 days.
- Anonymous usage data: 180 days. It isn’t linked to you, so it stays when an account is deleted.
- Support screenshots: deleted 90 days after you send them.
- Data exports: deleted after 7 days.
After an account is erased, we keep only a one-way hash of its email address (so a new account with the same email doesn’t get welcome credits again), the payment records Stripe keeps as the law requires, and a record of any changes our team made to the account.
How we protect it
Everything travels over encrypted connections. Passwords are stored only as secure hashes, and two-step verification secrets and the access tokens of connected services are encrypted. Files you upload are stored privately and opened through short-lived links. Pictures in notes are stored at long, hard-to-guess addresses. Our team sees account information only when it’s needed to help you or keep SparkMentor safe, and their access is limited by role, protected by two-step verification and logged.
No system is perfectly secure, so use a strong password and turn on two-step verification in Settings → Password & sign-in. If a breach affects your data, we’ll tell you, and the authorities where the law requires it.
Your choices and rights
Wherever you live, you can:
- Get a copy of your data: Settings → Account & data → Download my data prepares a ZIP of your account details, chats, notes, cards, mistakes, quizzes, knowledge trees, progress and uploads. We email you when it’s ready, and you download it in Settings within 7 days.
- Correct it: change your profile, subjects and level in the app, or ask us.
- Delete it: delete single items in the app, or your whole account (here’s how).
- Object or say no: turn off Offers & news, reminders, anonymous usage data, your public profile or connected services at any time, or ask us to stop a particular use.
- Ask us anything else, such as a copy of data the export doesn’t include: email sparkmentis@gmail.com from your account’s email address.
We answer requests within the time the law sets, usually 30 days, and may ask you to confirm the account is yours. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
SparkMentor is for students aged 13 and over. It isn’t meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email sparkmentis@gmail.com and we’ll delete it and its data.
If you’re under 18, please use SparkMentor with a parent’s or guardian’s permission. Parents and guardians can contact us to see or delete their child’s data.
International transfers
SparkMentor is used worldwide, and we and our providers process data in other countries, including the United States and the European Union. When your data leaves your country, we rely on our providers’ safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, so it stays protected as this policy describes.
Changes to this policy
We’ll update this policy when SparkMentor changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change matters, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
